FAQ

How do I change the battery?

This can be found on our how it works page. Or you can watch the following videos.

What does the button with the two arrow brackets "< >" do?

This is the Inside/Outside button and it adds the width of the eTape case to the measurement in the display when you are measuring inside a window frame for example.  It eliminates the need to bend the blade and gives a more accurate measurement.  Try it, notice it adds 3 inches to the display and an arrow points to the side of the case you measure to.

What units of measurement can the eTape16 display?

The eTape16 can display 5 different formats of measurement:
* Feet / Inches / Fractions, to 1/16th of an inch (ex. 2′ 7 3/16″)
* Inches / Fractions, to 1/16th of an inch (ex. 31 3/16″)
* Decimal Inches, to 1/10th of an inch (ex. 31.1″)
* Decimal Feet, to 1/100th of a foot (ex. 2.59′)
* Centimeters, to 1/10 of a Centimeter (ex. 79.1 cm)

Do I ever need to calibrate the eTape16?

The eTape continuously recalibrates itself as you use it but when new or when replacing the battery it must be conditioned.  Pull the blade in and out of the case several times 24 – 30 inches at normal speed – your eTape is now ready to use.

Can I trust the reading on the display?

Absolutely, the eTape uses patented technology to maintain proper calibration for reliable measurements and we are constantly making improvements to both hardware and firmware.

Do I need a PayPal account to buy an eTape16?

No. Although we have PayPal as one payment option, you do not need to sign up for an account. We prefer our customers use the default option which uses Shopify's payment system.

Does the eTape16 have an on off switch?

No it activates by turning on after you engage the battery by removing the plastic battery stop. Auto shut off when not in at 5 minutes.

How long does the battery last?

64 hours of continuous usage

What happens if my screen does not display a measurement when I pull out the blade?

Make sure that your hold button is not on, as if the screen is blinking with the arrow pointing to the left or right you have the hold button on. Push the hold button it should take your screen back to neutral then pull your blade out to take a measurement.

How do I activate the tape measure?

Once you have removed the eTape16 from the packaging, take out the plastic white battery tab to engage the battery. Then pull the blade out a few times to activate the sensors, then proceed to take your measurements.

Does the tape measure go to sleep or hibernate?

Auto shut off will take place when not in use for 5 minutes.

How rugged is the case, can I just throw the eTape16 into my tool box without any fear of it breaking?

Yes the eTape16 is made of poly carbonate plastic which is bullet proof, it is very rugged and durable with an “modern tool” design.

What's the difference between eTape 16 G1 vs. eTape 16 G2?
The primary difference between G1 vs G2 is the location of the memory buttons. On the G1 the memory buttons are on top of the device next to the digital display. On the G2 the memory buttons are on the side of the device.
We found that it is easier to use and access the memory buttons on the dise of the device rather than the top. Also, on the G2 you can use the memory buttins with one hand. In contrast, the G1 makes that difficult if not impossible.
